Honorable Premier W. McKeeva Bush has held many offices and accomplished many projects with his time at the Cayman Islands Legislative Assembly. He’s considered “Father of the House” because of his timely service record since 1984.
Premier Bush served on several different cabinets as a minister such as Health and Human Services, Community Development, Sports, Women’s and Youth Affairs and Culture, Tourism, Environment, Transport, and Commerce. He was also the leader of Government Business. In November 2001, he was a founding member of the United Democratic Party. He holds the office of vice president of the Cayman Islands Parliamentary Association (CPA) and chairman of the Regional Executive Committee.
His accomplishments include the development of the National Tourism Management Policy, the National Environmental Policy Framework Plan, and the Cayman Islands Economic Development Plan. He also helped create the Order of National Heroes designation, and assisted the production of the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority and the Cayman Islands Stock Exchange.
With a big heart and interest in his community, he formed the Islands’ Youth Parliament and The McKeeva Bush Foundation for Children and Elderly in Need, an organization through which he has assisted many students with school supplies and tertiary scholarships.
In addition to his accomplishments, he’s been a marriage officer since 1986, justice of the peace (JP) since 1993, and granted order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1997 by Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. He was also given an honorary master’s degree in humanities from the International College of the Cayman Islands. He’s been a husband for 33 years to his wife Kerry with two children and three grandchildren.
