Colin is a Sustainable Design Leader and Director of sustainable consulting for the North Central Region of Hellmuth, Obata and Kassabaum Inc. (HOK). For the past 7 years, he worked with local, regional and firm-wide HOK project teams to facilitate sustainable design integration and building certification for various projects throughout the firm. He has experience with various green rating systems, including the U.S Green Building Council’s LEED Rating System, various LEED rating systems in India and the Middle East, BREEAM, Green Seal and Estidama. Notable projects include; King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, the world’s largest LEED Platinum project and Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, the world’s largest LEED NC Platinum project.
Although project sustainable facilitation occurs throughout all design phases of a project, His consulting team continues to work with clients throughout the entire lifecycle of their project to ensure ongoing performance. Colin oversees the execution of sustainable solutions for HOK clients, which include green work place solutions, sustainable operation plans, Green House Gas emissions benchmarking and mitigation, occupant engagement and behavioral programs and broader sustainability planning for campuses, cities, municipalities and real estate portfolios. Colin works with public and private sector clients on commercial buildings, hotels, hospitals, airports, higher education, science and technology, and city master planning.
Colin is a member of the USGBC Illinois Chapter and is a frequent speaker at various sustainable events throughout the world. He has presented at over 35 events both nationally and internationally. In 2010, He was named to Midwest Construction’s Top 20 under 40 list and received an American Institute of Architect’s Presidents citation for his work on the 2030 Challenge in Chicago.
